The Suquash / North Island Coalfields include one past producer (Suquash) and several drilled prospects (Port McNeil, Quatsino, Coal Harbour and Malcolm Island). In contrast with the coalfields of southern and central Vancouver Island, comparatively little development work has been done on the North Island, owing to difficulties in access, and the generally thin and dirty nature of the known coals.

The following bibliography is known to be incomplete, but will at least serve as a starting-point for researchers.
